Hanna Eady - Playwright

A Palestinian-American actor and playwright, Hanna Eady has written several plays, among them Seeing Double (1991) and Abraham's Land (1992).  Eady is perhaps best known for Sahmata: Memory of Stones (1996), a one-act play for two actors he co-wrote with Edward Mast.  Sahmata was one of over 500 Palestinian villages in what is now Northern Israel.  The village was destroyed during the creation of Israel in 1948 but some of the displaced families, although not allowed to return and rebuild their homes, still live nearby.  In the play, an old man takes his grandson on a walk through pine trees and ruins.  As they walk, the memory of the place rises from the ground itself, and the grandfather tells his grandson about the Palestinians who once lived where there are now trees and stones.  Eady's play debuted in 1996 in Seattle, and has been performed in theaters across the United States, as well as in the Middle East and Europe.  For more information on Hanna Eady go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanna_Eady.
