Peggy Julian - Poetry
Upon her husband's retirement, Peggy Julian and her family moved to Bainbridge Island, a place which she describes on the cover of her book as having just the "the right mix of privacy and friendliness." Julian is the author of No Single Story (1984), a collection of verse with illustrations by Kathy Langhorn. Below is one poem from the collection:
The Coming of the Colors
The twig we
planted last year
bursts gaudy pink. March,
always the wanton, struts in her
finery, orders her frail sisters
against the last of winter,
claims premature victory
while we of humankind
encourage
with
our
hoes.
