Loss of a long-time Friend

Janet Young, a lifetime Bainbridge Islander and long-term supporter and participant in the Bainbridge Island Friends of the Library, recently passed away on June 26th at 87.

Janet was actively involved with the Friends of the Library over an extended period of time and made many contributions as a volunteer.  During her years with the Friends of the Library, she served on a number of committees, managed book sales, and was elected to a number of positions on the FOL Board.  She was Treasurer from 1979 - 1981 and then served as President of the FOL Board from 1981 to 1983.  In 1982 Janet wrote a history of the Friends of the Library and it was buried in the Time Capsule at the Library.  For those of you who may not have known the exact location of the Time Capsule, it is buried under the electrical closet in the Library basement and is not scheduled to be opened until 2062, one hundred years from the date of completion of the original Bainbridge Public Library*.  Janet was a member of the Time Capsule committee.

She will be missed.

*information on location and date of opening is from "They Like Noble Causes" by Barbara Winther.
