Letter from a School Teacher
Teachers give so much to the Bainbridge Island Community that it is a pleasure to be able to lend a helping hand when we can. This fall the Bainbridge Public Library and the Bainbridge Island Friends of the Library organizations made two donations to teachers to buy materials to help their teaching goals. Both teachers replied with thanks and an explanation of how the donations were used. These wonderful letters were shared with the Bainbridge Public Library Board and the Friends of the Library. The text of one of the letters (image is to the right) is as follows:
" November 28, 2009
Dear Bainbridge Island Public Library and Friends of the Library,
Your generous gift for classroom supplies arrived at exactly the right time! Wilkes Elementary School was having their book fair that week. I had made out a teacher "wish list" but because of current economic times, I didn't receive many donations.
The students love spending recess looking at the book offerings but many cannot purchase books. It was a double pleasure to use your gift at the school book fair. It helped out our library in the classroom and purchases helped the school library. I was able to buy 15 new books that relate to our first grade curriculum.
I put a label in the front of the books to note that it was a gift from the Bainbridge Island Public LIbrary and the Friends of the Library.
Many thanks for your thoughtful gift to classroom reading. These books will get constant use for years to come.
Sincerely,
Carol Baker & First Grade Students"
